About Tracy Robinson
This law blog has evolved over time. Originally, this website was a traditional site providing information for my law firm, The Robinson Law Firm, P.C., which was based in Austin, Texas. I learned a lot building and managing website and even attracted a good bit of quality legal work for my practice through it and some other legal and online marketing tools I employed.
Then Hurricane Katrina came at the end of August 2005 and changed my life. You may be wondering how a hurricane in New Orleans could change my life in Austin, Texas. To make a long story short, my family as had a business in New Orleans for over 30 years and we were all needed to help out everything back together. My husband and I left within days with our special entry permits in hand, our truck loaded with everything from Spam to office supplies. One trip turned into two, which turned into three, and pretty soon it became apparent that our futures lay in New Orleans.
I am now General Counsel for the family companies and also an investor in New Orleans real estate and an affordable housing consultant. We have already renovated 3 flooded houses and are starting on our fourth. I am going to chronicle our new project on my new website- New Orleans Real Estate Gumbo. My consulting business is on the web at Housing Louisiana Now.
Since there is clearly some history for this website, I decided to leave the name as Austin Counsel even though I only spend part of my time in Austin. I will be blogging on Texas and Louisiana law (I'm licensed to practice law in both Texas and Louisiana), legal marketing, legal technology (and office technology in general) and the art of blogging and online marketing. I am not accepting new clients at this time so please view the information provided for entertainment and education only. You should consult with your own attorney for legal advice pertinent you particular facts and circumstances.

How interesting.
We just moved my mother from New Orleans to Austin last week to live with my sister. Lawyers involved on both ends due to durable POT's, setting up trusts, etc. The disposition of her real estate is still an issue, but we'll get it figured out.
Wish I'd found your blog before we started all that.
Carols last blog post..Saturday Spotlight #4
Wow, an interesting story! I originally came to this page to ask for information, but this has touched my heart. I am from Louisiana and still have family there (now live in Austin). It's good to see there are people rebuilding the economy there. Did you guys make it ok through the recent storms? Also, I was wondering if you knew of any good resources to establish businesses in TX. We are trying to establish a business AND receive a breeding license.
It's good to hear of the good work you're doing in New Orleans. It's a shame that so many people who lived in that area at the time are still recovering. It's a disgrace the government haven't done more.
Thats so awesome! I am glad that you and your husband were able to help others during that horrible time.
It sounds like you are a jack of many trades… a lawyer and a house renovation expert. That's a great combination. There are a lot of homes that can be purchased in Louisiana for very little money. Cost effective renovation will provide a lot of badly needed affordable housing. Good luck with your efforts.
Yeah, it's fascinating to see how your life takes a way in few minutes or in few hours and sometimes even few words changes your life! Perhaps your family needed you the most so it is good that now you're working with them and I can see this site having some very good posts about law and there are some very funny ones too lol.
Hurricane Katrina was for a lot of people life changing. It was a wake up call for the most. Yes, it is very interesting how such things can change the path of a life. Here in Florida we are watching hurricanes closely.
This is a great site. It is nice for people to be able to find out legal advice online. While I would still recommend hiring a quality attorney this process can save you time and money.
It's when things like Hurricane Katrina happen that you really see the goodness in others and the strength in yourself you didn't think you had. Your story is interesting but I'm glad you are still going to be blogging on law – it's too important to give up on! Well done on the renovations, keep going!
Great story. This is a wonderful example of the fortitude that is truly rebuilding New Orleans!
wow. amazing story. its amazing how many positive and uplifting stories have come out of the katrina mess. It shows the inabilit of government to do anything but the power of ordnary people to do great things for people. Keep up the great work.
It is hard for us to imagine what it must be like to have such a life changing event happen so suddenly, but you are amazing, you have coped wonderfully. I hope your law firm continues to be successful for many years.
So many bad things came about because of Hurricane Katrina that it's a real pleasure to see stories like this. Well done on everything you've been doing, I hope you keep the legal stuff going but I'm impressed that you're also getting more involved.
Thank you. Its good to hear that you are back on our feet after that hurricane. Yours is qute a good story, an inspiration for everybody why also experinced storms in their life. Law really interest me, it really educates me about the dos and donts, not just in business but in real life.

When Hurricane Katrina happened, most of the employees in the company that I was working laid off because most of the businesses there was affected. Communication were lost and our clients were asking for little time for them to be back and business and fix all those damages brought my Hurricane Katrina. Good thing that they are back in business now
It is really heartening to see, people rebuilding their houses right from scratch after the hurricane. Kudos to every living being on earth who has faced calamity and yet not given up like the ant in King Richard – the Lion Heart's story.
We keep our injured clients informed regarding this process, encouraging a patient and cooperative attorney/client relationship that results in an atmosphere conducive to a just resolution of an injury claim.
August 29, 2005, is a day many Americans recall vividly. It marks the day that Hurricane Katrina forever changed the lives and fate of a city with a culture as rich as the land and waters it sits on. That day brought about sentiments of confusion, frustration, anger, strife, disgust, desperation and death. With this new renovations going on, it will make a difference.
Thanks for keeping this site going, I've been reading from time-to-time and find it a great resource!
